DigiTimes sources report that MediaTek has suspended the development of the Helio X series chipsets. The company redistributed its resources in favor of more affordable Helio P chips targeting middle-priced smartphones. The company slows the development of chips with a process technology of 7 nm and 10 nm, concentrating on the creation of 12-nm solutions.
This is done to solve the structural problems of the company: since 2016 MediaTek has been steadily losing sales of chipsets, the company is losing market share, and gross margin is also declining. Thus, next year we will not see the new flagship chipset performed by MediaTek, but there will be a lot of “middle peasants” with the new Helio P.
